Thanks for posting the Vandersteen interview. It inspired me to try once more to tame my TAD 1601sthat reside in sealed 3cuft boxes. It worked, but the numbersare slightly shocking. 12mH translates to 100Hz, and 25 uFon 4 Ohm Altec 290’s in 260 Hz hor...

Cessaro once again didn't manage to find electronics that compensate the cold TAD sound, so the Silbaton WE demonstration one or two rooms away was quite a contrast. Without being addicted to that kind of sound and without having too much listening e...

It is good that Cessaro come up with own driver. I wish they come with own driver a few years back. Use TADs for year and did not express criticisms to many TAD qualities was kind of “blind” and a bit devaluate the entire statement that they were try...

Hello Romy and everyone, I am going to order a pair of 400Hz/1" tractrix horns from http://www.stereo-lab.de/tractrix.html to replace/compare with a pair of 500Hz TAD-like square mouth horns. These are to be used initially with the drivers that ...

I am actually doing the bass and ULF with different modules and amps. My bass modules are the dual tad boxes driven with their dedicated monoblock solid state amplification. The tapped horn is working for ULF only as it is crossed at 30hz with 18db. ...
|
I don't think you can align the tapped horn. My tapped horn has a total length around 5 metres. To time align that with my other drivers, its got to be around 5 metres closer than others. The only other solution is delaying the rest of the channels.....

Yes primarily i viseted Thomas to compare tonearms, he has a couple of Schroeders, the new graham Phantom ( mark III ) a vintage Ortofon amongst others. and he has a fine collection of cartridges, as I mentioned he is a very nice guy, The real surpri...

This is something I have been at for the last few years, I have tried a few drivers, at the moment some of my favorite are the vintage RCA MI 1443, yes filed coil and some funny cone diaphragm, they are used from 500 hz to 5 khz with a Fostex T...

Romy Hi, Raplh uses a 300b push pull, but the power supplies are massive, parts alone 15K Euros, each channel has a separate supply, the pre-amp again two massive power supplies , he prefers to use eight of the horn loaded bass bins, although I...

I'm not sure what relevance the purpose something was created for has to whether it can be used in a serious audio system. As you point out elsewhere there are many products created which are supposedly for serious audio use which are...

Hey op.9, yes, I have experience (probably the only person this side of the world) in repair and rebuilding of the PD 801. I have about 3 waiting to be rebuilt. I'm using one now, in my 'High Zoot Monomania' mono system, crossed with a 1mfd 2500v Spr...

Thanks Romy, I'm using a TAD 10" mid in a sealed box to produce 200hz-800hz. Although I'm fairly happy with it, I'm hoping a compression driver/horn would give even better results. There aren't a lot of ready made options for 200-800hz so I chose Got...

JBL 2441 also seems interesting candidate, perhaps "smoother" than 2440:Duke LeJeune of Audiokinesis recommends them as a "poor man`s TAD"Beyma CP755ND/AL 1.4"http://profesional.beyma.com/ENGLISH/pdf/descarga.php?pdf=CP755NdAL.pdfSome interesting alu...

Romy,,I agree with most of what you say....But good audio engineering comes in small tiny increments,,when JBL introdiced the coherent phase plug..I said so what?? then the moved the position of the magnet,,I said so what??But they were getting ready...

Either my ears have gone bad or I must be the luckiest user of pure power regenerators. Have been using three for four months now and am still bowled over the improvement in my system. No matter what time of day I listen it sounds superb, but I do no...

I've been having love/hate relationship with Lowther (and its siblings) for several years now. As you all say, it has many problems to use as a full-ranger. Right now, my set up is a 3way multi-amp, Lowther (Reps 1) in Medallion cabi...

It is interesting… complaining about the fact that the “promising to be claver” Cessaro Horn using the TAD drivers (still it is not completely known as they said that that MD driver cost €4000) I asked myself: what else they might use? Really, ...
Cessaro will be playing …. the full Gamma system at next years Munich show….
Since I promoted the Cessaro Gamma to be a contender for the most promising commercial loudspeaker I would like to pass a few critical co...

Yes, both ends of the spectrum are tough to integrate with a quality MF.Of course, electrostats have no "push", but they seem to do all right (understatement) just supplementing way up there, in an array. The thing is, the "big" ribbons and 'stat...

I have my passive crossovers arrived. They are built by hornFabrik. Everything is up to the spec I asked for and I really like their build quality. As of yesterday, I have now a more promising sound towards what I have aimed for. They are first order...

Looking at Vox as a glorified 2-way Altec speaker with tweeter and supertwiter with all " not optimal" choices ,folded 70's PA thunderbolt mid bass cab time misaligned crap ( Romy's opinion ) bi-radial Vitavox midrange suitable for derby races and d...

The el`Ol’s comments about Cessaro did not find a proper electronics to drive this TAD made me to ask: what electronics Silbatone uses? It never was part of attention of anybody and regardless if Silbatone demonstrate god or bad sound it might be int...

hi Woitek. The K33 extend the bottom end by the high Q, to almost 40 cycles . Which is only ok if you work with passive XO on a single amp. Well that's how they were designed. Having designated amps that allow you to steer the parameter or even bett...

Hi Mats,I am not using 4 on each side. I will be using two on each side. Until now I always liked sealed enclosures. However Tad drivers are more suited to ported configurations. If you do not push them to go too low and have a reasonable fs point, t...

I have used thick wool felt around the perimeter of my round horns at times. Having owned a pair of ROGERS LS3/5a's in my youth and being amazed at the huge sound those little speakers could effect one tries to re-use ideas. Diffraction control is ...
Have you use GOTO dirver before? Have you try it with the "GOTO" recommendation? Have you listen to GOTO in your own system? If not, I suggest that you do it 1st and then draw your own opinons then. GOTO never said don't worr...

thank you for sharing your concerns. The LF module I was building was like yours with drivers from scanspeak. However both the dealer was not professional and the the drivers had a certain sound to them (too much character) so I ditched that solution....

I have been working on my system. I post sparse as I need to listen a lot before doing any changes or decide on anything.I have changed the 1000hz JMLC horn to a 1400hz JMLC horn and the results are better. I have better integration with the Fostex t...
One advantage of the use of a phase plug in a midbass horn is that it will beam less at higher frequenzies than a horn without phase plug. If the phase plug is designed for the specific horn and driver it will help "steer" the HF.
